When did you build your wall?
About three weeks ago, not long after lockdown started in our hometown.

How long did it take you to build?
About a week an a half, but a solid four days of that was spent waiting for the t-nuts to arrive.

Not including holds and padding, how much did it cost you to build?
    About $300.

Did anything in particular inspire your wall design?
An absolute crusher named colin from my home gym has a very similar slab in his back yard, and it made me realize how under-appreciated slab is in the homewall world.

What was the most difficult aspect of the design and build?
We had to drive some three-foot stakes through the bottom of the frame to secure it in place, and there was a gas line nearby. We called the gas company and had them mark it out for us, but I still had an eerie feeling every time I swung the sledgehammer that I would finally learn what it’s like to be in an explosion.

    What would you do differently?
We should have counted the amount of t-nuts we needed beforehand because we ended up being a little short in the end.

    What is your favorite aspect?
I love slab so it’s great to be able to have one at home to do funky, technical moves. And the paint job’s not bad either.

Any words of wisdom to aspiring homewallers?
Measure twice, cut once. Double checking every step can land you a killer end product.

Do you have any connection to climbing brands or gyms?
I work at Granite Arch Climbing Center in Rancho Cordova, just outside of Sacramento, California. It’s my favorite gym based on community alone. I’ve built a number of great friendships and seen so many more grow over the years. It’s truly my home and I can’t wait to get back after all this is over.
