Climb HARDER: The Replica Method – from Lattice Training

History of Replica Training:
Many of the 30s and 40s generation became aware of replica building through the British climbers, Ben Moon and Jerry Moffatt. They created copies of their outdoor projects to train on in cellars underneath Sheffield houses in 1993. The younger climbers though, are aware of the amazing work by people like Adam Ondra and Nalle Hukkataival who really pushed the standards of route climbing and bouldering in the last 10 years or so via a similar method of replica training.

If it worked for them, it could work for you…

Replica building is a highly effective method for refining your movement, power and other physiological adaptations (+ psychology as well!) specific to your project. In other words, it’s a tool that has one of the best rates of return. Whether you’re aiming for your first V6 or V16, it’s a valid and productive approach…

Some quick tips…

  • Body Position is vital
  • Hand craft your holds
  • Start the process with objectivity
  • Don’t overuse the replica
