When did you build your wall?
I built the one I’m still using now in 2000, but I built my very first (extra small) one in the late Eighties

How long did it take you to build?
One week: I’m not a good builder and I did it all by myself

Not including holds and padding, how much did it cost you to build?
roughly speaking, 500 euros. Before installing plastic holds, I used self-made wooden holds: cheap and skin friendly texture. I recommend to consider this option.

Did anything in particular inspire your wall design?
Symmetry: I always looked for symmetry, maybe due to the fact I come from artistic gymnastic. Or simply maybe I’m obsessed πŸ˜‰

What was the most difficult aspect of the design and build?
It has been hard fitting the height of the garage (just 2,2 mt) and my climbing capabilities: deciding to go down at 45 degrees has been tough since I’m getting older (52 yo, so far). And I pay the toll every time I get back from even a little stop.

    What would you do differently?
I would have kept a smaller distance from the hold-holes. They’re 25cm apart and the rows are not aligned. I would keep 20 cm and all the holes aligned.

    What is your favorite aspect?
Symmetry: for every boulder I invent I have to send his symmetric twin as well. This is a great challenge.

Any words of wisdom to aspiring homewallers?
It’s really an easy-access facility, but it requires a strong mindset for training. You’re (probably always) training alone, there’s no chance to chat, joke, relax with friends. But on the other hand when you’re focused on training it’s a really effective way to save time and make effective every single minute of training.

Do you have any connection to climbing brands or gyms?
No. But I found revolutionary the Stōkt app, which gave new life and new energy to my homewall thanks to the problems set up by friends and even unknown guys (whom I thank a lot)
