When did you build your wall?
    April 6th thru April 12th (2020)

How long did it take you to build?
    About a week.

Not including holds and padding, how much did it cost you to build?
    About $1100 in materials.

Did anything in particular inspire your wall design?
Just simple training walls. The main wall is 12’x12’ at 40 degrees overhung with a 2’ kicker at the base. Similar to a MoonBoard or Kilter Wall.

What was the most difficult aspect of the design and build?
Designing it was easy, but pulling it off was the hard part. Making sure I used the appropriate lumber for the loads and span was crucial. Fortunately my wife is part owner of a Roofing, Siding and Window Company, so I was able to bounce my design off of one of their building experts before proceeding with the build.

    What would you do differently?
Nothing really…the wall came out great. I did order some holds though that are not ideal for the angle (way to slopey to hold onto)! I guess I just have to get better!

    What is your favorite aspect?
Being able to step into the backyard and climb anytime is awesome. We have a tarp we put up when it rains to protect the wall and fall zone that unintentionally also allows us to climb when its raining (not pouring). That’s a nice / unexpected bonus.

Any words of wisdom to aspiring homewallers?
Like Nike said…“Just Do It!” It’s a lot of work, but a fun experience and totally worth it if you’ve got the time and space for it.

Do you have any connection to climbing brands or gyms?
I have connections to a lot of climbing brands and am currently the Director of Route Setting and Wall Design for Rock Spot Climbing.
