When did you build your wall?
March 2020
How long did it take you to build?
4 days.
Not including holds and padding, how much did it cost you to build?
250
Did anything in particular inspire your wall design?
I was limited by height and width. I knew I wanted a kicker, and around 30-40 degrees. I’m also renting, so it needed to be free standing in my garage, and I wanted to be able to take it apart somewhat easily for if I move.
What was the most difficult aspect of the design and build?
My height was a looking factor for sure, squeezing a good angle wall into an 8 ft roof space was tough.
What would you do differently?
I didn’t order enough jugs, I knew I wanted hard problems, but I didn’t take warm up problems into account. Right now, I need to take my time warning up on a hangboard before I actually use my wall.
What is your favorite aspect?
I am proud of my kickboard. It was hard to design considering my height limitations, but I was able to add two rows of t nuts and several screw ons.
Any words of wisdom to aspiring homewallers?
Plan plan plan. When you’re about to start cutting wood, go back and check the plans. I wanted no cuts of wood by checking my plans every time I started to do something. It meant no extra runs to the hardware store and no wasted material.
Do you have any connection to climbing brands or gyms?
I’m a local ambassador for Madrock climbing.
